Orange River Lodge in Colesberg is a hidden secret in the Upper Karoo close to the Orange River that blends together mythologies of ancient Scotland and Ireland with old mystical Africa in times when dinosaurs roamed its vast planes.
The Orange River and the Oorlogspoort spruit border the farm with ample bird life that shares the trees on the river banks with inquisitive monkeys. Here you will see the brightest stars at night and in full moon you can wander safely on the farm to our popular Koppie which has views that emphasizes the desolation of the Karoo.
The farm is only 20 km from the Gariep dam airport which has a 4 direction tarred landing strip The lodge has been renovated in fine style and the colonial architecture blends in perfectly with its tranquil Karoo surroundings. The rooms are luxury converted horse stables and the restaurant is situated in the old farm house which was built in 1890. Pepper Trees surrounds the old house.
The lodge does not only cater for weary travelers but it is also an enjoyable breakaway in the peaceful Karoo with enough activities to keep you occupied day and night.
There are a number of hiking trails, and fly fishing is good in the Orange river and Oorlogspruit. Cycling can also be enjoyed whilst exploring the farm. Game is plentiful, and includes Gemsbok, Red Hartebees, Black Wildebeest, Blesbuck (white and ordinary), Springbuck (black and ordinary) and Mountain Reedbuck.
River canoeing, hunting of game and geese or bird watching are also very popular activities. Off-road bike and quad enthusiasts are more than welcome to bring their equipment and explore the country side.
Please note, since we are also a wedding and function venue, our country estate is not pet friendly.
